Kumbha Mela 2025 : Prayagraj Airport Seeks Approval for International Flights Ahead of Mahakumbh

The airport authorities pointed out that the new service would be beneficial for the thousands of pilgrims expected to arrive from abroad. The letter emphasized that completion of a new terminal building would enable the airport to meet the needs for international operations.

In the letter request, forwarded on October 11, there were details from the airport director, Farrukh Ahsan, as well on the new facilities being developed at the airport for the Mahakumbh. He mentioned that once the new terminal is in place, the airport would offer amenities comparable to those of international Airports. He claimed that such upgrades would make the airport fully prepared to handle international flights.

Official authorities opine that there would be a timely satisfaction of the demands of passengers in Prayagraj district and its neighboring districts if international flights were to start from Prayagraj. 

Currently, passengers traveling to various international destinations such as gulf countries, Nepal, and Sri Lanka need to come up from this place to airports located in Varanasi or Lucknow. If international flights were directly available at Prayagraj, passengers will save time and money. This would help the residents of the region enjoy a better journey.

Even the airport is being extended to cater to the visiting rush of Mahakumbh. The expansion of this terminal comes in line with upgrading other facilities to be up-to-date and internationally compatible. "If approval is given, it would mean multi countries' flights for Prayagraj Airport and will be beneficial for connectivity to the region," said Ahsan.

With all these developments, Prayagraj Airport also hopes to play a very pivotal role in being able to accommodate international travelers, especially during Mahakumbh, one of the largest religious congregation events across the world. The enhancements in the infrastructure have been undertaken to support that influx, while offering more accessible travel options for residents and pilgrims alike.

Kumbh 2025 Snan Dates

Mahakumbh begins with Paush Purnima Snan, which is on 13 January 2025. At the same time, the Kumbh Mela 2025 festival will conclude with the last bath on 26 February 2025 on the day of Mahashivratri. 

This mega festival occurs every twelve years and is accompanied by a series of ritual baths in the holy rivers, mainly at the confluence of Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythological Saraswati.
