Himachal Pradesh Welcomes 7.4 Million Tourists by May with Solan on Top | Solan Tourist Footfall

Tourism in Himachal Pradesh has seen an enormous boost with a visitor count of over 7.4 million visitors reaching the state till May this year. The figures were a 3.5% growth against last year's equal period. First time around, Solan district took the top position of tourism over Shimla, the capital city of Himachal Pradesh, known as "Queen of Hills."

Boost in Rising Popularity of Kasauli, Chail, and New Destinations

Kasauli and Chail continue to remain among the prime destinations for tourists, while newer places such as Reva Waterfall are gradually gaining prominence. Moreover, homestay options are available now and access has improved much over the years, yet tourism in Kandaghat-Sadhupul continues on a rapid growth curve and is providing tourists with varied experiences.

Infrastructure Development and Tourism Initiatives

Manasi Sahay Thakur, Director of Tourism and Civil Aviation, said, "The state is taking the following steps to improve connectivity and infrastructure.".
"Heliports are being constructed to improve inter and intra-state connectivity. Major focus areas in terms of infrastructure development include creating wayside amenities, opening wellness centres, construction of ice skating rinks, and promotion of eco and adventure tourism with assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB)".

The plans will develop wayside amenities, establish wellness centers and ice skating rinks, and construct heliports. These projects form a bigger thrust towards the promotion of eco-tourism and adventure tourism, and the Asian Development Bank funds these.

Tourism Statistics by May 2024

Till the last week of May, Himachal Pradesh received 7,464,184 tourists, out of whom 32,415 were foreign tourists. In contrast to last year's 7,202,956 tourists with 23,174 being foreign tourists, this would indicate a 3.5% growth. This uninterrupted inflow of domestic and international tourists speaks of the widening attractiveness of the varied attractions of the state.

Top Attractions in Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh remains a destination for all seasons. Dramatic landscapes of Spiti, tranquil beauty of Kinnaur, and a spiritual hub by virtue of being the residence of the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, Dharamsala is there. Colonial charm of Shimla, adventure, and snow-filled fun in Kullu-Manali ensure that each of the visitors finds something that he or she loves the most.

Spiritual and Cultural Significance:

Himachal Pradesh, Not only does the state hold religious importance, but it also attracts pilgrims to Shakti Peethas in Kangra, Bilaspur, Una, Sirmaur, and Mandi, often referred to as Chhoti Kashi due to their ancient Shiva temples. On the other hand, foreign tourists, apart from adventure buffs, are more interested in exploring Kinnaur's rugged terrain, Lahaul and Spiti, and Chamba, which reflect untouched landscapes and a rich heritage of culture.

Himachal Pradesh remains one of the bright spots for tourism in this state, and Solan has now emerged to become the darling of the tourists. It is well poised to attract Indian and international tourists with its wide array of attractions and with ongoing infrastructure developments.
