The First Segment of Delhi Dehradun Expressway to Open by November

The first leg of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway will be ready by November, connecting Akshardham to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. It would be a relief for two-wheeler riders and car owners alike commuting between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh as it would take only 2.5 hours from Delhi to Dehradun once completed. The entire road is expected to be complete by December, but some delays are anticipated.

Akshardham to Eastern Peripheral Expressway Segment Nears Completion

The initial part of the expressway covering the section from Akshardham to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway is slated to be opened in November this year. This freshly built section is meant to provide significant relief from heavy traffic congestion, above all, for Delhi-Uttar Pradesh road commuters.

The expressway has been designed to serve local traffic as well as the long-distance traffic. Underpasses and ROBs have been constructed with several bridges to allow free flow of traffic. A service road, 28.4 km in length, has been constructed parallel to the expressway to take care of local traffic to ease the burden on other roads.

For instance, the newly designed expressway is expected to put an end to congestion on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and might thus capture 30,000 passenger car units that would otherwise traverse this route.

The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is ready for commissioning in full stretch over 239 km by December. However, it is still likely to be a few months late over some portions in Uttar Pradesh. Union Road Transport Secretary Anurag Jain has sought the UP Chief Secretary's support for the completion of the project in time. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi would review the project during the next Pragati meeting.

Delhi Dehradun Expressway Project Reduced Travel Time and Increased Connectivity

The highway, when in full operation, will be reducing the traveling time between Delhi and Dehradun from over six hours to a mere 2.5 hours. It will also have a link to Haridwar for 51 kilometers that will connect the two cities. The highway will also have 12 way-side amenities that will increase the convenience of the traveler.
