Tourism in Goa has kicked off a little earlier than usual, at least in terms of beach shack operators erecting their premises fairly early on. An estimated 80% of the 350 shacks have already been set up and are ready to provide a September head start for tourists to soak into this state's popular beach culture. Charted flights too arrived a little earlier and it all added to the tourism quotient so that October is an  ideal time to visit Goa with fewer crowds and a more relaxed atmosphere.

Typically, beach shacks start going up closer to the peak season. But this time, everything's off to a bright start. Close to 80% of the 350 shacks are already open, while the rest are scheduled to be completed by October 15. "Everyone had much earlier than expected preparation for the season," said Cruz Cardoso, president of the Shack Owners' Welfare Society.

The initial setup is mainly due to chartered flights reaching Goa, marking the beginning of the tourist season. Two charter flights with Russian tourists landed at Manohar International Airport on October 2, which largely upped the tourism sector's scope.

Taking apart Monsoon and Early Rebuilding

You would know that beach shacks in Goa are pulled down during the monsoon period and generally erected again this time of the year. Well, this year was a different ball game: things have accelerated a lot, which has kept regular visitors very pleased-in fact, utterly surprised by the early setup.

The hotel and shack owners still have a very positive feeling about the early start of tourist season. They expect to have a highly successful season because they prepared infrastructures ahead of the expected influx of tourists.
