Five youths of Uttarakhand Find a New Trek between Chopta and Madmaheshwar | Explore 78 km Trek from Chopta to Madmaheshwar 

Rudraprayag: For the first time, five young adventurers from various regions, including the Madmaheshwar Valley, have discovered a 78 km trek spanning from Chopta through Visunital-Khamdir-Sheshnag Kund-Nandi Kund, ending at Madmaheshwar. After completing the trek, all five returned safely to their homes. The discovery took five days, and the unique highlight of the trek is the breathtaking view of Chaukhamba Peak from an unnamed pass at an altitude of 4,900 meters.

Five Youths Discover the Trek

The five youths used Google Maps in mapping this trek. The foremost target was to create a connection for trekkers to the five Kedars through the Himalayan trek while promoting Visuni Tal as an emerging tourist spot. The vision is to create an identity around the Visuni Tal-Khamdir-Sheshnag-Nandi Kund trekking trail. The track from Khamdir to Sheshnag was considered both the loveliest and the most dangerous 10-kilometre stretch. The youths admired the splendor that nature has blessed the Visuni Tal-Khamdir region and the scenic beauty of Sheshnag and Nandi Kund.

Research for Designing a Digital Route

Top views of Chaukhamba and more on top of the unnamed pass near Khamdir provide trekking enthusiasts with an electric combination. "Six months of research and compositing a digital route went into this trek," said trekker Abhishek Panwar, a resident of Gaundar, Madmaheshwar Valley, and Vinay Negi of Badiyargarh, Tehri. Topographical sheets, Google Earth, Google Maps, Peak Finder, and Gaia Software helped map it step by step.

Day one, the crew trekked 16 km to Visunital through Chopta-Martoli-Chitra Vadiyar.

On Day Two, they trekked from Visunital (Bisudital) through Dawa-Maruda and Dangdaniya Khal, making a distance of 13 km due to weather conditions that led them to short their camp early.

The Third Day was crossed over Khamdir Pass, at a height of 4,500 meters, and covered 14 km.

On the Fourth Day, the team again crossed two glaciers from its camp and took the steep pathway of Pandav Sera via Sheshnag Kund and Nandikund to pass another 14 km.

On the Fifth and Final Day, the team covered 22 km, crossing Sera Gad and Dwari Gadera, before finally reaching Madmaheshwar. This was the first expedition on this newly found foot trek for which no official route had been set out previously.

What the Trekkers Have to Say

I am residing in Gaundar and a member of this trek team. I hope that such a trek would eventually increase local tourism and adventure tourism in the Rudraprayag district. Such expeditions will bring attention to the natural beauty of these mountain regions, thus offering new destinations for trekking enthusiasts from across the country and the world," feels Ajay Panwar.

Vipin Singh of Agastyamuni Dangi said that the foot treks linking the Panch Kedar Yatra in the Himalayan region are many but have to be located with remarkable braveness and a great deal of resources.

Vinay Negi from Badiyargarh, Tehri says that witnessing the untapped wealth of nature from Visuni Tal to Khamdir is a feeling which cannot be described, but he warns that the biting winds at every step make it tougher.

Lastly, Sanjay Singh of Badasu in Kedarghati said the stretch of 10 km from Khamdir to Sheshnag Kund is rock-like and risky but assured that the breathtaking view of the Himalayan ranges standing in white from the summit of Khamdir will always live in the memory.
