Ahmedabad's Jagannath Temple Corridor Beautification to Link 35 Temples and Feature a Grand Plaza

The ambitious 155 crore Temple Link Project should join 35 ancient temples spread over the city through a 2-kilometre heritage trail. The trail would start from Vasant Chowk, passing by some prominent landmarks, including the Ganesh Temple and Saptarshi No Aaro, and finally arriving at the Jagannath Temple.
The corridor will follow the traditional Jal Yatra route, hence providing seamless connectivity between the various religious shrines. With this, the project also involves the creation of temple squares and gardens, as well as a heritage interpretation center that celebrates Ahmedabad's vibrant cultural heritage.
A major feature of the project includes the construction of a multi-level parking facility with a capacity to accommodate 750 vehicles, primarily to alleviate the traffic congestion, especially on days of the Rath Yatra.
 

Phase 1: The renovation of temples near Vasant Chowk and Rambari—these temples are situated along the banks of the Sabarmati River, and restoring them will renovate ancient structures while giving them their historical charm and beauty in architectural appeal.

Phase 2: The focus of the next phase will be on creating a grand plaza in front of the Jagannath Temple, as such, it will be a grand entrance to the city. In addition, temples near Saptarshi No Aaro will be restored, and a heritage gate will be constructed along the Sabarmati River to further enhance the area's cultural significance.

Phase 3: This will target Tilak Bag, where a heritage center on about 1,600 square meters will be erected. A multilevel parking facility will also be constructed to enhance relief of traffic conditions in the area.

In addition, a visiting plaza large enough to host approximately 4,000 devotees would be built outside the temple, providing ample space for devotees to have an inviting space where they can worship or perform their rituals. The upgrade also includes the development of the Jal Yatra route connecting the Jagannath Temple to the Sabarmati River to provide a smooth journey for the pilgrims during the festival.
This transformation will improve the infrastructure around Jagannath Temple, but at the same time, ensure that it is more enriching and accessible in all directions for the devotees.
