Gwalior-Agra Greenfield Expressway: Reducing Travel Time and Enhancing Connectivity Across UP, MP, and Rajasthan

In a recent update, the Gwalior-Agra Greenfield Expressway is all set to change the world of travel and boost connectivity between two adjacent cities, Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh and Agra in Uttar Pradesh. This 88.4 km expressway will increase connectivity between three prime states, namely Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. Not only this, the expressway will also reduce the  travel time between Agra and Gwalior from 2-3 hours to just one hour!

The new expressway will link Deori Village on the Inner Ring Road of Agra with Susera Village on the Gwalior Bypass, as per the report. The road will pass through Bhind and Morena and be six-laned. An access-controlled highway will let the vehicles move at 100 km/h speed. It will cover an area of 502 hectares with an estimated cost of INR 2,497.84 crore.
The highway design will comprise 47 culverts, four minor bridges, and five major bridges. It will pass through 14 villages in the city of Agra and 30 in Dholpur; a few areas are situated in Morena to reach Surera Village by finally joining the Gwalior Expressway. This expressway will also include a section of the inner ring road, which connects to the Gwalior Highway.

Environmental Considerations

However, one of the biggest challenges was getting clearance to chop down 4,000 trees in the Taj Trapezium Zone. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has agreed to plant 1.24 lakh trees to balance it out with the environment.

This will also boost tourism since now people can travel to see the cultural and historical monuments found in both Agra and Gwalior. Therefore, all is well on the side of economic growth, considering the trade routes, ease of traveling time, and accessibility to hotels and restaurants.
The project will also have connectivity to major expressways that are Agra-Lucknow, Bundelkhand, and Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. This will generate jobs with easy access to Jhansi, Shivpuri, Morena, Datia, and Gwalior. The total cost will amount to INR 4,613 crore. This in itself makes the expressway more than just a road as it acts as a portal for quicker travel, increased trade, and economic growth. With this development, regional connectivity will change and bring the long-term benefits of this region.
