Mangan District in Sikkim is Ready to Welcome Tourists From December 1; Know All Details

Sikkim's Mangan district will reopen for tourists on December 1.  Lachung, Yumthang Valley, and Guru Dongmar Lake are among the popular destinations in the district. The heavy monsoon caused roads to get blocked and caused damage. The Border Roads Organisation repaired the damaged infrastructure. This will benefit the local economy.

The much-awaited development: Tourists will be allowed to visit major Himalayan sites in Sikkim's Mangan district from December 1. Stunning places like Yumthang Valley, Dikchu, Lachung and the iconic Guru Dongmar Lake are now set to reopen after being disrupted for months due to heavy monsoon rains.

According to reports, five months ago, heavy rain had resulted in massive landslides that had caused damage to roads, bridges, and other infrastructure on the North Sikkim Highway, thereby putting a stop to tourism in Mangan district. The local economy, which relies much on tourists visiting these beautiful places, was also significantly affected because of the ban on tourism.
The decision to reopen the district gradually was made by CS Rao, principal secretary of the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, who emphasised the significance of guaranteeing accessibility and safety. He said, "After examination of the present scenario and the road situation in Mangan district, a decision has been made to gradually permit tourists." The strategy for regulation of tourist flow and assurance of a safe and organised reopening of the place will be prepared by the district administration.

Reports say that Border Roads Organisation (BRO), which has been putting in so much effort to repair the immense damage, has been in charge to restore connectivity in the region. According to reports, it has been due to the quick and diligent repair of roads by the BRO that the tourists would be able to safely return to this charming area for holiday and explore. Officials have described the restoration efforts as being conducted on a 'war footing,' indicating the urgency of the task.

It is believed that the reopening will rejuvenate the tourism industry in Mangan district, which is known for its pristine natural beauty and cultural diversity. While Guru Dongmar Lake, one of the world's high-altitude lakes, is considered a respectful and beautiful place, Yumthang Valley, often simply referred to as the "Valley of Flowers," has breathtaking landscapes. Lachung and Dikchu, with their humble villages and serene surroundings, are also favorites with tourists seeking quietude and serenity amidst the lap of the Himalayas.

The authorities are going to put in place regulations for safety and sustainability as the district gears up to welcome tourists. This phased reopening will signify the resilience of the region, which will gradually reaffirm its position as a prime destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers.
