Noida International Airport will be a commercial airport handling domestic and international routes starting from 17 April 2025.
Following a crucial meeting with Noida International Airport Ltd, the Yamuna International Airport Ltd, presented a detailed timeline of achievements with major approvals needed for holding the grand opening of the airport.

Jewar Airport: A Great Leap to Regional Connectivity

The greenfield airport at Jewar, Uttar Pradesh in Gautam Buddha Nagar district is to be designed so that it enhances both national as well as international connectivity for and from Delhi-NCR, Noida, and Western Uttar Pradesh. Jewar Airport, once completed, will be India's biggest airport and one of the four biggest in the world.

Strategically located, the airport is 72 km from Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) and 40km from Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad. The project area totals 5,000 hectares in totality.

Development by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited

Jewar Airport, under development by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited in a joint exercise with the Uttar Pradesh state government - this is a fully-owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG. Once completed, the Jewar Airport will be a monolithic addition to the aviation infrastructure in India.

According to NIAL CEO Arun Vir Singh, the concessionaire submitted a proposal to begin commercial operations on April 17; however, we are gravely considering advancement of that date. Singh said not to maintain this timeline would be dangerous because further delays would impact international approvals and slot times, which may otherwise be delayed for up to six months. Plans for the launch of the subsequent year are on track and talks are already going on with IATA International Slots and with DGCA for domestic routes.

The airlines are already preparing for the launch

The airlines have already started filing applications for international routes, but that will still be subject to bilateral licensing agreements between the two countries and airlines involved. For the domestic allocations, there would be a meeting with DGCA in mid-October finalizing all the domestic flight slots. Singh said that at least one international flight is scheduled to take off on launch day at the airport.

Timeline Flight Trial Bookings

The flight trials shall be held on November 30 while the Airport Authority of India will conduct tests as a part of the last rehearsals for the airport.

According to Singh, international flights will start taking bookings 90 days prior to the launch of service, while for domestic, the booking period will be extended to 60 days prior to the launch. "So passengers can expect booking slots opening anytime in January or February 2025," he added.

Phase 1 Development and Passenger Capacity

The first phase of the airport will be about INR 5,700 crore, covering 1,334 hectares, with one runway and one terminal, with an annual handling capacity of 12 million passengers. By launching Noida International Airport, India is poised to witness a game-changer in the aviation arena: much better connectivity and decongestion of Delhi's existing airport terminals.
